Betar Bangla – Neighbourly Radio for the Bangladeshi Community in London

Golam with volunteers at Betar Bangla

A few weeks ago I had the chance to visit Betar Bangla in London, which is a community radio station that broadcasts on AM across the city and serves the interests and social needs of the Bangladeshi community.

I spoke with Golam Chowdhury who told me about the ethos of the station, how the station supports its listeners, and how the volunteers who make programmes on the station are a supportive community themselves.

Golam told me that neighbourliness is one of the essential functions of Betar Bangla, and the power of radio is to help people feel connected and part of a wider community, not only across London, but also across the world.
