Over the next few weeks a new influx of volunteers will be making their way through the studios of DemonFM, to learn how to broadcast radio producers.
In order to simplify the process of accountability and responsibility I’ve mapped out how the station works. It’s essential to stress that this is not a hierarchical structure. The first image is a flat view and the second image is a cross-section. There is no upper-layer of management, instead there are some people at the centre who have more responsibility, and are therefore more accountable if things go wrong.

•
• On DemonFM accountability is identified with each role that volunteers/members undertake.
•
• Responsibility is something that each individual person takes and nurtures – and is mentored.
•
• Accountability works outwards towards members, the DemonFM Ltd board, De Montfort University and Students Union, and Ofcom.
•
• Responsibility grows as members/volunteers take on a more significant role, looking after other people and ensuring that the station meets its obligations.
•
• As well as a responsibility to specific organisations, we also have a wider responsibility to our reputations.
•
• Ultimately, what is most important is that we have accountability and responsibility to each other.

I’m very interested in reading comments and thoughts that might test and extend this model, based on either professional experience, experience gained in community media environments, or just for the sake of it.
