How we connect and build relationships with one another is an essential question for the future sustainability of both our local and our global communities. John Coster, of Leicester’s Documentary Media Centre, discusses and explains why he has established the Parallel Lives project, based here in Leicester, but with the aim of connecting people through and with media from around the world. The challenge, according to John, is that we can let the large-scale global media platforms control our world view, or we can establish our own networks of mutual support that challenge the dominance of the tech-giants, and help us to support conversations about where and how we belong to our communities, while also being global citizens.
