I’m trying to establish the etymology or derivation of the phrase ‘Theque’, as in ‘Bibliotheque’ or ‘Discotheque’. So far I’ve found a medical reference that suggests ‘collection’, ‘nest’ or ‘aggregation’. There are very few words that use this as part of a word or phrase. I’ve seen ‘Ideatheque’ and we are using ‘Audiotheque’, but I’m intrigued to find out where the word originates, in what context and what usage. Bibliotheque is derived from a ‘library’ or ‘bookcase’. If anyone has any suggestion, tweet @audiotheque as I’d love to discuss your ideas and observations.
