Melton Borough Council are holding a special meeting on Wednesday 15th February at 6.30pm to discus the long-standing proposals to put over one thousand new homes in the north of Melton Mowbray.
Taking place at the Parkside council headquarters, councilors will be meeting after more than one thousand people signed a petition against the proposals, organised by Melton North Action Group.
MNAG’s aim is “to champion the interests of residents with a view to providing input to challenge and shape the current Council preferred option”.
According to the Melton Times ““Many residents do not feel that they have been adequately informed throughout the decision making process and have a wide range of concerns about the proposed development and we are asking the council to review the proposals.”
Melton Mowbray Local Plan
South Melton Action Groups online coordinator, Rob Watson, said “It’s really important that residents in South Melton have a voice in these issues, and that Melton Borough Council consults widely and often about planning and development issues.”
Rob added “Melton Borough Council’s consultation policy is already very weak, and doesn’t include any online communication techniques, so how can councilors be sure that contentious issues have been discussed fully?”
“SMAG fully supports the efforts of MNAG” said Rob, “and looks forward to developing links and working together to ensure that decisions are made by the council that reflect the widest possible view of people across the whole of Melton Mowbray.”
