Is the War Memorial Hospital Site Finally About to be Sold?

Melton's War Memorial Hospital - Has a Buyer Been Found?

Reports in this weeks Melton Times suggest that a buyer has been found for the War Memorial Hospital site. According to the Melton Times “The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Primary Care Trust (PCT) said a preferred purchaser has been selected and the legal process to seal the deal is ongoing.”

No indication has yet been given about the nature of the development, except that Melton Borough Council extended planning permission for the site at its meeting on the 2nd February, which may include seventeen dwellings, the erection of ninety-one  new dwellings, and the demolition of Warwick Cottage and 22-24 Ankle Hill.

Questions that are being raised by concerned residents are:

  • What is the timescale for any detailed planning applications and how will local residents be consulted?
  • What will happen to the extensive and ancient grounds around the main buildings, and how will they be preserved as part of the character of the area?
  • If development takes place on the site, how will traffic will be managed and controlled?
  • Will any building works will be managed properly and will not disturb the peace of the area?
