In an earlier blog I talked about how I would like to move DemonFM’s Intermission Show forward. Between Simon Walsh and myself we are running with some good ideas that need to be worked out in practice, but are worth sharing and asking for ideas from anyone reading this blog.
Firstly, we are going to reduce the length of the show to one hour, and make it almost exclusively news and features. Our priority however, is to break the show out of the studio and to make it appeal more to the audience of DemonFM. We also want to tie the programme in with a couple of exciting developments that can really help to buttress the programme as an authoritative voice of community based content. It might be easier to list the essential features of the programme one by one. Each of these will have to be covered at least once in each show:
Community Media News: Working in partnership with the Citizen’s Eye Community News Network the Intermission Show will cover news and stories from Leicester – seen from a community perspective, and written by non-professional journalists.
Square Mile Update: DemonFM wants to support the DMU Square Mile project, and the Intermission Show is a great place to highlight what the project is about, to get participants talking about their work, and to give regular updates on the progress that is being made and the impact that it is having. The students who produce the Intermission Show will make a daily podcast to go on the DemonFM website.
DMU Expert Spotlight: There are so many great things going on at DMU, but rather than waiting for the university to issue a press-release about them, our team of reporters will go out into the university and talk to colleagues who are in the know. If it’s academic and research staff, professional and technical staff, there is plenty to find out about the way that the university works and what it has to offer.
Leicester Creative Showcase: There are so many fantastic creative events taking place in Leicester, this is a chance for DemonFM to give a big shout-out about them. If it is profiling a band, a DJ, a film maker, an artist, a poet or a performer, this is an opportunity for Intermission Show teams to tell the rest of the world about what’s happening in Leicester.
I definitely need to work on the names and the way these can be implemented, but I’d be keen to read any views on how this might work out.
