I’ve just put together and sent in some proposals for DemonFM’s contribution to the Leicester Square Mile Project, which is looking like being a really good way of DemonFM cementing it’s links with community media in Leicester, and with colleagues in other parts of DMU. Let me know what you think:
DemonFM Intermission News Show (With Citizen’s Eye) Square Mile Updates:
The Intermission Show is a daily news programme from DemonFM, on air 12-1pm Monday to Friday. The focus of the programme is Community News from Leicester. Students from TECH2005 Radio Production and MEDS2006 Journalism 1, will be developing and producing news content aimed at an audience of sixteen to thirty-year olds in Leicester. For 2011/12 the Intermission Show will be broadcast in association with Citizen’s Eye Community Media News Network, who will be sharing stories, audio content and broadcast feeds with DemonFM. A daily feature of the Intermission Show will be a daily focus on the DMU Square Mile Project, with reports on projects, events, issues and discussions that are associated with the project, bringing together members of the relevant communities, professional services from the local authorities and expert colleagues from De Montfort University. DemonFM is well equipped to run live outside broadcasts and events that can take place from different locations across the city, and can also accommodate guests in our well-equipped studios in the Queens Building. The Intermission Show teams will produce a daily podcast for the DemonFM website which will be based on this content. News teams from the Intermission Show will work closely with colleagues managing and running other Square Mile projects and events, and will forward-sell/profile events that are coming-up, as well as broadcasting news reports, interviews and features about the Square Mile project and the difference it is making to the people of the city.
DemonFM Square Mile Voices:
A creative audio project that will be broadcast for a week-long period as a special programming sequence, which will be incorporated in a wide-range of DemonFM’s output. Us-ing interviews and reflections collected over a two-month period, from participants in the Square Mile Project, DemonFM will broadcast short sequences of audio through the day. These audio sequences will comprise reflections and recollections from people who live within the Square Mile area, or who have been associated with the Square Mile project. This audio content will be collected by a small group of dedicated volunteers drawn from the Square Mile, and supported by volunteers from DemonFM and students and staff from De Montfort University. Support and training will be given by DemonFM volunteers to use recording equipment and editing applications.
DemonFM Square Mile Community Media News Club (With Citizen’s Eye):
A weekly news programme broadcast at lunchtimes on Saturdays on DemonFM, produced in association with the Citizen’s Eye Community Media News Network. This programme will prioritise stories and news features drawn from the Square Mile, produced by volunteers drawn from the Square Mile, and supported by volunteers from DemonFM and De Montfort University. Offering training in radio news production to community volunteers, supporting them to produce and develop news content, features and reports, and to pre-sent this news in a live show. Meeting every Saturday morning in the Queens Building us-ing the studio and labs in the Creative Technology Studios, community volunteers will learn to record news reports and present a live radio programme for broadcast on DemonFM.
