Melton Borough Council Adds Online Consultation

Updated - Burton Street Online Consultation

Melton Borough Council have written to SMAG following our complaint that the proposed consultation about the future of Burton Street Car Park was not available online. David Blanchard the Corporate Property Officer gave SMAG the following statement:

“I have arranged for the online consultation option as you suggested, this is now on our website. There will also be an additional consultation held in the market on Saturday, details of which are still being agreed. The type of development has been explored in a wide sense and these details are now available on our website. The consultation has been from a landowner perspective rather than as planning authority and this is not purely a market driven exercise –the purpose of the consultation is to get local views on potential uses. The car park will need considerable investment if it is to remain a car park, with drainage issues and this was part of the reason for consultation to proceed now. We are seeking views on surrounding area and how any development may impact on the surroundings. Thank you for your comments, if you would like further information please contact me. Regards, David Blanchard MRICS, Corporate Property Officer”

Rob Watson, SMAGs online organiser, said “We welcome the speedy response to the extension of this consultation, and hope that Melton Borough Council adopts the e-democracy format for all it’s consultation as a default way of gathering views in the future.”
